Spring break winding down

While many of you are probably getting ready for Spring Break, ours is slowly but surely winding down.  I’ve definitely enjoyed the extra help this week to take care of my various projects (namely, a lot of Next Kid Thing launch planning) and Jack has enjoyed the time spent with Lola and Lolo.  We’re looking forward to seeing even more family this weekend!

When I haven’t been working on the new site, I’ve been napping–not just for fun, but out of necessity.  It appears, someone has taken a dislike to his crib here.  Jack’s so used to his Stokke crib and the way it curves at either end.  I’ll always find him curled up in the corner at night.  But here, it seems like he just can’t get comfy.  By 1am, he’s protesting and making sure everyone knows it.  Blah.  But alas, hopefully, tonight will be a different case.

The weather is finally Spring-like, at least for VB.  If I ever finish sending out my mound of emails, I’m hopefully going to get out with the family (for the first time this week!) to join them for a stroll at the beach. ahhh…

As for the launch week for Next Kid Thing, I hope to share more insight and details later today or sometime this weekend.  I had a chance to contact a few more awesome companies who have interest in the new site.  Can you say, awesome giveaways galore!  But the thing is, in order for me to have such fun giveaways, I have to ask for your help.  It’s simple:  the more comments, interaction and visits to the new site, means more giveaways.  More details to come, including the week’s lineup and glorious giveaways, so stay tuned.  But in the meantime, check out the Next Kid Thing, tell your friends, tweet, blog, share on Facebook.  I’ll lurve you forever!  Friends and family that have already been doing all of the above, it means the world to me.  It truly, truly does.

P.S.  If you haven’t already, don’t forget to sign up for the aden + anais giveaway!  It ends on Monday!

Mama Likey + Giveaway: Boogie Wipes

Talk about perfect timing: just in time for yet another snowy day, as well as my first sickness of the season and Jack’s 10th, I have a perfect product review to share.

Over the summer, before chasing a little runny nose all day was a time-consuming activity, Jeff brought home this eye-catching lime green and orange package.
“It’s called Boogie Wipes!” he told me.
As I tucked them into Jack’s toiletry cart, I was convinced they weren’t anything of interest for us. “They look like repackaged regular wipes to me.”

Boogie-Horizontal-logo-Stuffy

Fast forward to this winter. Once the cold settled in, so did Jack’s constant runny nose. At first, I went the green route and used copious amounts of cloth diapers to wipe up his nose. Once I rubbed his nose practically raw, every time he saw a cloth diaper coming his way, he’d scream and run. Then, I went the tissue route. I had even more tears, running, screaming and clean tissues made into confetti (thanks to a defiant runny-nosed toddler.)

Jack loves Boogie WipesAnd that’s when I remembered the Boogie Wipes I tucked away. The packaging, vibrant and colorful, intrigued Jack immediately. Because he was distracted, I was able to open and wipe his nose without a fight. The best thing was, well, besides a painless experience (for both of us), that I only had to wipe once. With the cloth diaper and tissue, I often had to wipe multiple times, increasing the chance of the little raw, red nose. The subsequent nose wipes went just as smoothly as the first time. Perhaps it was the cool packaging, fun smell or the ease of use, whatever it was, the biggest critic was sold—of course, so was I!
So, what sets Boogie Wipes apart from “regular” wipes? Quite a bit, actually.
According to the company, Boogie Wipes is:

Made with natural saline to dissolve Mucus
Hypoallergenic
Alcohol Free
Moisturize with Vitamin E, Aloe and Chamomile
Lightly Scented
Gentle Enough for All Ages
Phthalate & Paraben Free

Like many parents know, the pediatricians and drs at the hospital often suggest using saline to help clean up kids and babies’ noses. So, the saline IN these wipes is so obvious and ingenius. After a night’s sleep, tending to a baby with the morning remnants of a stuffy, runny nose has never been so painless. Seasoned moms and dads know that all of the above are helpful attributes when chasing those runny noses. After many, many wipes of regular tissues, those tiny noses get so red and raw. I found that by alternating Boogie Wipes with regular tissues, the redness was definitely diminished, if not avoided altogether. At any given time, I have a pack in our diaper bag because of the convenience and ease of use. Those green and purple packages are so easy to find in the black hole that’s become our diaper bag.

It’s easy to say, after the first package, I was completely sold. I’m not easily sold by all the products of convenience on the market for kids, but this one most certainly filled a void in the nose wiping department. The grape scent is byfar our favorite, and Santa even had the foresight to tuck a few packs in Jack’s Christmas stocking! Truth be told, with this cold, I’ve been using them too. How can I resist that fun scent?
Santa was generous this year

As I’ve started this freelance journey, understandably, I’ve become extremely interested and invested in mompreneurs. As promised, in line with launching my new website soon, I will be doing more reviews, interviews and profiles, especially with mompreneurs. Since I’ve been “studying” successful moms’ business trajectories, the Boogie Moms’ success in one worth mentioning:
They launched their product in Dec. 2007 and within a year, they shipped to 30,000 locations. Their projected revenue for their first full year in business is $2.9 Million. (!!) Even better, their story was featured on big media outlets like, The Big Idea and The Today Show. Impressive, don’t ya think?

And this is the best part of it all, I contacted the Boogie Moms to tell them how much we adored their product and to let them know that I was going to do a product review. The Boogie Moms were so generous to offer a coupon discount for all of my readers…oh yeah, and a pretty awesome giveaway.
Gift Basket

To enter the giveaway, all of you have to do is visit the Boogie Wipes site and comment what product(s) you think would be YOUR favorite.
For additional entries, sign up to receive my email updates (on the left <—) and/or follow me on Twitter. This contest will end in a week, February 4th at noon. I will pick a random winner for this awesome basket via Random.org.

Good luck!

Bear cakes, Bakugan and blowing noses

Happy Birthday Jesus

Originally uploaded by jen_rab

Happy Monday, all. Hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing weekend. The three of us had a nice weekend. We had a chance to see many of our friends at the annual regifting party. We unloaded some tacky gifts and came home with a Bakugan Battle Arena and a really awesome Weird NY book. The obscure gift balanced out the pretty cool book! Though cold, it was fun to have some adult interaction conversation and booze. It definitely helped that we only had to trek a block away.
When we weren’t busy regifting, the three of us were taking turns blowing our noses and chugging cold medicine. Well, Jeff was doing the chugging. I was more like, wincing and threatening to barf. (I used to take shots like it was my job, but I hate liquid medicine!) YUCK. On a good note, the Theraflu Daytime Warming Relief works like a charm.  Mama definitely likey.

I’ve got a long to do list this week. So, I’m hoping this cold has a short stay. It’ll be tough chasing after 2 runny noses and still tackle this list! (More on runny noses later, including a giveaway.)

Dr. Bronner’s Giveaway

dr. bronner's lip balmI finally got the last giveaways out in the mail, so it’s time for a new one!

Sandpaper elbows and chapped lips are big indicators that it’s been a cold winter in our house. I’m normally addicted DCT, but lately, I have a new fondness for Dr. Bronner’s. It’s relatively non-greasy, effective and longlasting. I’ve been toting the Peppermint lip balm with me for the past two weeks. Ingredients include Organic Avocado Oil, Organic Beeswax, Organic Jojoba Oil, Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Peppermint Oil, Natural Tocopherols.

Dr.Bronner's Body Balm Orange LavenderI’m not naming names, but someone’s been rubbing their elbows in the tub of the peppermint body balm. And behold, after a few days of application, this person’s elbows are as good as new. The balm is made with organic jojoba oil with organic beeswax, avocado and hemp oils soothes dry & chapped skin anywhere. An added plus for those ink lovers, it’s supposed to be great for protecting tattoos. It really is like magic.

I honestly had no idea Dr. Bronner’s even made a skin balm. It’s a good thing they do. The soaps are a staple in our house. (the soap, alone, deserves its own post soon) It turns out, Dr. Bronner’s & Sun Dog’s Magic line offers a range of lotions and balms.

But both, the lip balm and skin balm, are really great products. The fact that they’re organic is a huge plus, too.

The giveaway is for the orange and ginger flavored lip balm and orange lavender body balm. I’ll leave it open for a week and announce a winner at the end of next week.

Storage, giveaways and a bag of chips

I’m not sure who has off like me today, so I don’t know if too many people are around. I thought I’d do a quick post while the boy naps and before I pack and all that other fun stuff.

too big for the bassinetBoth of my parents were visiting us this week, which was a nice change of pace since dad is usually on my “team.” It felt like I had someone backing me every time I was headbutting my mom about something. As always, I love watching them interact with Jack, whom they deem royalty. They took off for Va. last night and brought a bunch of stuff Jack has outgrown to take into storage, i.e., their garage. I very reluctantly packed up the bassinet attachment to Jack’s stroller. But before my dad took it out to the car, I plopped Jack in to see how he “fit.” Not so surprisingly, he barely fit. He thought it was a fun place to hang but was very disturbed when he realized that he couldn’t roll out/over/into the bassinet. Nevertheless, just like me, he was sad to see it go. Bye baby Sad to see bassinet gobassinet, we’ll see you again in a few years.

Speaking of rolling, Jack continues to hone his mobility. He knows he wants to move, but hasnrolling off the changing pad‘t figured out that he needs to move his legs AND arms, so he still sort of “flies,” but has somewhat gotten the rolling thing down. He even rolls off of the changing pad, now. (Quick sidenote: we don’t have an official changing table bc of space constraints, so we just use the changing pad on the floor.)
When I blink my eyes or turn my head for 2 seconds to grab the wipes, it’s not uncommon to find him all sprawled out a few feet OFF of the changing pad. I’m pretty sure they make the belts on those pads for babies like him.

And finally, since I’m talking about mischief, like his mom and dad, Jack has a fondness for snacks. Well, obviously, not the actual food yet, but the bag. Yeah. The other night tortilla chips are fun!when we had that delicious salsa, we discovered that Jack was completely mesmerized by the sound the bag of tortilla chips made. Every time I dug into the bag, he would stop what he was doing and stare. Clearly, he had no clue what deliciousness was encased in the bag, but it was the bag itself that was his new obsession. So, we gave him the bag and let him go to town for a few minutes. Good times!!

And finally, I have another giveaway BUT I have an unhappy fella in the other room that is calling for me! So, I’ll do my best to post later, but if not, I’ll definitely do it on Monday.
